Food Obsessions Part 2

I started this food obsession thing with my post about Sonic. I get obsessed with things that I cannot have and I blame it all on The Food Network. They are always talking about some damn place that is no where near me that I want to go to. So I am going to blog about some of my food obsessions. Today's installment is Krispy Kreme.

About 7 or 8 years ago I stumbled across Krispy Kreme in our hotel in Las Vegas. I think at that point I had heard about Krispy Kreme on the Food Network, (it's that damn Unwrapped show). Anyways, we didn't have Krispy Kreme in MN at the time. When I came across the "Hot Donuts Now" light I was intrigued. I loved donuts so I thought what the heck let's stop in. Not that it matters but it was about 3:00 am, early by Vegas standards.

I was quickly in love with those hot glazed donuts. I had never tasted anything so good. I made several trips to Krispy Kreme in that visit to Vegas, thank goodness it was in our hotel. Once I got home I was having a donut withdrawal. I got all obsessed trying to locate a Krispy Kreme but there were none around me. The closest one was 250 miles away in Des Moines Iowa. Yes, I briefly considered driving there but that would have been crazy so what did I do instead?

I emailed Krispy Kreme and asked them to airship me a dozen donuts. They said no. They wouldn't do it because they could not guarantee freshness. I was hugely disappointed. About a year later Krispy Kreme was becoming all the rage and our local paper actually had an article on how you could get Krispy Kreme to Fed Ex you donuts. It wasn't worth the $45 charge. Soon after Krispy Kreme came to MN with huge fan fare. People waiting in line all night for donuts, it was crazy. ( I was not there!) A few stores were built here and then they started popping up everywhere, like gas stations and Target. I didn't like that because I only wanted them hot. Pretty soon Krispy Kreme died off and now all of them are closed again in MN. There are no more hot Krispy Kremes to be found. Guess I'll just have to go back to Vegas.

I also obsess about food. I used to absolutely love Krispy Kreme. I still do love the cinnamon ones, as well as the raspberry filled. Other than that, I think they're too sweet. I do LOVE the hot ones, though. Once, we went to an Outback Steakhouse in Enfield, England. We had to wait for an hour for a seat, so we went across the street to a HUGE KK. We each bought two donuts and got a free hot one while waiting. They were delicious -- even if they cost $2 each after the pound/dollar conversion.

That was really funny! I too first tried a KK in Vegas. Although it was not love at first bite and I was all "what's the hype about?"

MM, I didn't see what the hype was about their other donuts but those hot glazed ones had me.

Oooh!!! I *heart* those hot glazed donuts. I have even bought the box from Target and reheated them in the microwave ... close, but just not the same.

Side note: I LOVE Unwrapped. I was even watching that while at the hospital in labor with Parker. I also love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives!

I could have SWORN that they had Krispy Kreme in the MOA. The warm doughnuts are the bomb, they are absolutely to die for. Our Kum and Go gas station used to carry them, but they don't anymore. My waistline is thanking them.

I do get obsessed with certain foods too though. Right now, I'm on a rampage with the No Pudge brownies, which I can only find at Target. And I completely obsess about the food in Vegas at restaurants like Margaritaville and the Grill place in The Venetian, which is the one owned by Cheesecake Factory. Mmmmm, that's another obsession....the cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. Sigh.
